With great joy the first Idente bishop, Most. Rev. Luis Miguel Romero Fernández, M.Id, conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation on 34 teenagers at Our Lady of Solace Church in the Bronx, New York, on May 21, 2022. Bishop Luis presented the teens—14 of them members of Our Lady of Solace-St. Dominic Parish and 20 from Santa Maria Parish—to parishioners as new members of the parish youth group.
In his homily, Bishop Romero exhorted the confirmandi to take pride in being teenagers as the most meaningful period of their lives. As teenagers, they are prepared to receive and develop God’s gift of free will. The devil is afraid of young people because of three characteristics that typify them: truthfulness, enthusiasm, and willingness to give up their lives for a great ideal and, mainly, for persons. By this Sacrament of Confirmation, the Holy Spirit will enhance and elevate these characteristics and appoint them to missions to take care of Christ’s Church through the anointing.
Fr. Robert Badillo, M.Id, pastor of both Our Lady of Solace-St. Dominic and Santa Maria parishes, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Bishop Luis and his deep appreciation for the dedication of the catechetical team.
Our Lady of Solace-St. Dominic and Santa Maria, both in the Archdiocese of New York, are two of the four parishes administered by the Idente Missionaries in the United States. Bishop Luis Miguel Romero Fernández, M.Id, is Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York.
