These were the words that a man we met on the first day told us. “It’s the last house we visit”, we said after walking more than two hours. It was a very humble house where a lonely man had lived for a long time, who opened his heart completely to us. While he spoke, one could perceive that in spite of his loneliness he was happy, he told us that “the one above” was the owner of our life and that he had it, so he would be in that house until God calls him. When we said goodbye, he gave us some fruits from his garden and taught us how to plant and harvest cassava. We returned to the town truly happy and edified by the life and generosity of this person.
One of the many meetings we could experience from June 8 to 12 in Ubaque, a town in the Andes Mountains near Bogotá, where 17 young people went on a mission. For many, it was the first time they had this experience. These days were a blessing for all, and fatigue was not an impediment to carry the message of Christ. The long walks were an occasion to share our lives: we were a family, a “Church on the way out”, which does not stay locked in its own schemes but goes to meet the brother to bring the joy of the Gospel. At the end of the mission they all expressed their nostalgia; the desire to keep these experiences as a treasure in each of their hearts; and expressed their commitment to share what they had received with many others.
