For three consecutive weekends in September, the catechists at Our Lady of Loretto Parish in Hempstead, New York, have received formation and training to prepare them for their important mission, which will begin Sunday, October 1. On that day, the 2017-2018 Religious Education Program will open its doors to more than 400 children and teenagers. About 250 of these will be in the First Communion Program and more than 150 will join the classes for Confirmation.
On Sunday, September 24, at the end of the 9:00 am Mass, all the catechists and their assistants were solemnly commissioned by the pastor, our brother Luis Miguel Romero Fernández, accompanied by our brother Fernando Real Ferrero, who blessed the catechists.
In the pictures we see some moments of the formation seminar for catechists of Confirmation and their assistants, conducted jointly by the Provincial Superior of our sisters, Elaine Schenk, and the General Procurator of our brothers, Fernando Real.
It is relevant to mention that most of the new assistants were students in our Confirmation classes last year. They have willingly assumed this new mission as a fruit of the dedication and attention put into their formation last year. We congratulate our brother Roland Pereira, who at the helm of the Confirmation Program has been able to inspire this enthusiastic group of young parishioners in the direction of such an important service.
