A pesar del calor sofocante del 13 de abril de 2019, los voluntarios identes de Filipinas se dispusieron a llevar la ternura del amor de nuestro Padre Celeste a un hogar de ancianos en Quezon City. Ellos hicieron una representación de la Resurrección con la esperanza de que nuestros hermanos y hermanas de ese hogar perciban la presencia de Cristo en sus vidas.
Uno de los momentos más bonitos de esta visita fue el diálogo de los voluntarios identes con los ancianos. Esta acción va de acuerdo con lo que el Papa Francisco expresó en el Año Jubilar de la Misericordia en el 2016, cuando dijo que “no deberíamos identificar el dar limosna simplemente con echar una moneda, sino que es importante el gesto, ayudar a los que piden, mirándoles a los ojos, tocando sus manos, y pararse a hablar para entender qué necesitan”.
Los voluntarios identes llegaron a los ancianos a través del amor, los sueños y las oraciones que compartieron con ellos. Uno de los voluntarios dijo que aparte de decirles que oramos por ellos, nosotros también deberíamos pedirles que oren por nosotros porque sabemos cuán cerca de ellos está nuestro Padre Celestial. Jonathan, que hizo el papel de Cristo en la representación, expresó: “Sentí que Cristo me estaba diciendo que vuelva a dedicarle mi atención a Él. Quería llorar durante la representación”.
En verdad, cada uno de ellos recibió alegría. Estamos seguros de que entendieron lo que el Padre quiere que hagan en su vida –que ellos vivan cada día con mayor esperanza y que cada vez que reciban a Cristo a través de la Eucaristía, sientan lo mismo que sintió nuestro Fundador, Fernando Rielo, cuando hizo su Primera Comunión y Cristo le dijo: “Tú ascenderás Conmigo”. Terminaron la visita con una gran sonrisa en su rostro, llevando en su corazón la más grande historia de amor representada por ellos: el momento en que Cristo instituyó la Eucaristía.
Despite the scorching heat on April 13, 2019, the Idente Volunteers-Philippines were determined to bring the tender love of our Heavenly Father to a home for the elderly in Quezon City. They presented the Resurrection play with a hope that our brothers and sisters in that institution would be able to perceive the presence of Christ in their lives.
One of the most beautiful moments of this outreach program was when the Idente Volunteers dialogued with the elderly. This act was in line with what Pope Francis said in the Jubilee Year of Mercy that “we should not identify almsgiving by just simply tossing a coin but what is important is the gesture, to help those who ask, looking at them, touching their hands, stopping to talk in order to understand what they need”.
The Idente Volunteers reached out by sharing their love, dreams and prayers with the elderly. One of the volunteers said that aside from telling them that we will pray for them, we should also ask them to pray for us because we all know how close our Heavenly Father is to them. Jonathan who portrayed Christ in the play said: “I felt Christ was wanting me to notice Him again…I felt like crying during the play.”
Indeed, each of them received joy. We are certain that they received what our Heavenly Father wants for them—that they live each day with greater hope and that whenever they received Christ through the Eucharist, they would experience the same feeling our founding Father, Fernando Rielo felt when he received his first communion, when Christ told him: “You shall ascend with Me.” They left the place with a big smile on their faces, carrying in their hearts the greatest love story that they portrayed: when Christ instituted the Holy Eucharist.
